SLATE HOUSE provides us with a showcase winner on Friday & Ivor's Queen wins at Wincanton

28 October 2017

Lovely to be back at Cheltenham last weekend for the Showcase meeting. We had a total of nine runners over the two days. On Friday we ran Mick Thonic and Sizing Tennessee who fell two out when looking in command of the 3m novices' chase under Bryan Cooper such a shame as we are convinced Tennessee had come there full of running and would not have been beaten.

Our last runner Slate House who we purchased at the Cheltenham sales in March for £260,000 is now owned by Eric Jones, Geoff Nicholas and John Romans a lovely horse who has been doing everything well at home - we wouldn't swap him for anything. We were happy to make the running as he had done in his previous ptp, Robbie Power was in the saddle and was delighted with how Slate travelled and jumped throughout he had in fact spoken to the jockey who had ridden him in Ireland and was told not to be afraid to let him roll from the front and as he can be a bit keen that's exactally what we did.

On the Saturday we got Robinsfirth back on the track for Wendy Carter and Christine Knowles a pleasing return after ten months on the sidelines. He was sent off favourite under Robbie Power but after losing some valuable ground at the top of the hill he recovered well to be in with a real chance and ended up finishing a good 4th in his first real handicap.

The closing bumper saw newcomer Ainchea owned by Alan Potts who was too weak and backward to run last season make a very eye catching debut finishing a very good 2nd to the year older winner Herecomestheboom, they were miles clear of the remainder.

A busy day for the team on Sunday with 12 runners divided between Aintree and Wincanton. We were disappointed with several of them but thankfully Ivor's Queen saved the day, so many times she has made the running and set it up for the others,so this time we wanted to try something different, we told Jmaes Bowen to sit on her and wait, this produced a brilliant change as she strode home comfortably by 11 lengths under the 7lbs conditional.
